Meditation App for Squirmy Sitters

I know without a doubt the best thing I can do for my mental and emotional health is to be still - either in prayer or meditation.

But like most people, I avoid it, preferring to get on with my to-do list or Substack or Instagram or coffee, whatever. Off to the races all the time.

But as I've said a lot recently, I don't want the hustle anymore. I want to live differently. Loving, content, trusting, present. Meditation and prayer help a lot with that.

So I'm always looking for tools that fit me, ones I'll stick with and not abandon - which is of course my responsiblity, nobody else's but...

I found a meditation app called Mindful Glimpses that has at it's center the same driving principle as Internal Family Systems.

In the introductory meditation, the creator Loch Kelly - lifelong meditator, teacher and author - explains his method of tapping into our already perfectly calm, clear, compassionate center in short bursts, multiple times per day. He calls it effortless mindfulness, which is deeply appealing to my squirmy self.

In IFS we call that center Self Energy and it's not something to be cultivated or managed, it's already there and it emerges when we ask all our parts to step back and give us space. IFS founder Dr. Richard Schwartz is a guest on the app.

Kelly explains the method better than I do. The app is free for 14-days, so you can get the idea. You can check it out here.

Heck Yah Energy
We concede too soon, accepting things that are close but not quite. We champion things that are more convenient than true. Perhaps we think it's easier to settle than to live with uncertainty.  But when the just-right happens, we know because it rattles our bones.  It's Thelma and Louise. It's Whitney and the National Anthem. It's Alysa Liu with a gold medal and stripes in her hair.  ...
Managing a Crash Out
This week's letter is late due to an epic crashout I had on Sunday. I doubt I have to explain all the reasons a sentient, female American person might have crashed out this week. I feel a little like this toaster. It works about 60% of the time, and the other 40% it catches fire. Just kidding, it only caught on fire once. We still use it. It's Thursday now and I have tools.  I've spent the las...
Cherish is a Verb.
Father Richard Rohr is one of my mentors. He doesn't know that because he mentors millions of people. In his 56 years as a Priest, he's written more than 30 books.  As a beautiful gift to posterity, the wise folks at the Center for Action and Contemplation, which Father Richard founded in Albuquerque, started a podcast, inviting interesting people to join Father Richard for a chat.  About a yea...
